Reconstruction and adaptation project of old aerial tramway station in Mziuri park
In Mziuri Park aerial tramway construction was built in 1982. It reflects the geometric and social style of soviet modernism and represents its small component.
This inoperative building, with the method used in the project, forms a new functional space, that responds to the new vision of Mziuri Park and provides preserving the primary face of the object and making minimal impact on it.
Existing building doesn’t meet the demands of new functions and it arises inevitability of widening the room, On the one hand, with its retaining, the park retains its historical value too, and on the other hand, project addings directly repeat the form of the modernistic cube and represent the remains of soviet heritage with newest methods.
As a result, the modernistic cube added two analogous steel constructed cubes with the same value and area. This increased space for different functions and, at the same time, it keeps its historical concept. First of all, it all happens because of the cultural and social functions, given to the space, to be freely realized. From that point of view, the face of the project is unique as much as it minimally changes the perception of the object and space and maximally offers its functional range. It combines several fields. First of all, it’s a media library, a place for gaining and sharing knowledge. The exhibition hall, placed on the lower storey, gives the opportunity of setting up multimedia exhibitions, that will develop the beautification of the Mziuri park in different ways. At the same time, the media library represents an active place for artists and people related to art. place can entertain different types of events, meetings, etc.
The intervention in the space, getting close to it, and making changes in it is one part of the project. One of the main values is its recontextualization and actualization, using its history and existing space. the project is seen as interactive media, that, besides architectural values, supplies The Mziuri park with educational and creative functions.
