Because of their location and history, Deena and 9 March parks have always played a major role in the urban context and life of the City. They're located in the central part of Tbilisi, on the right side of the river Mtkvari, near the so-called "Dry Bridge". These two parks are separated by a small street. They were connected to that street by processional stairs.
Nowadays these two parks hold the role of multifunctional spaces. 9 March Park mostly has a marketing function, and Dedaena Park is more for recreation, walking, and sports. Despite the popularity and significance, there still had been kinds of problems, like the difficulty of communication between them and disorder of infrastructure. The projects of the tunnel between Dedaena and 9 March Parks and the widening of the pedestrian street along the 9 March park are considered to solve those problems.
Besides connecting two gardens, that simplified mobility between them, the tunnel project also made an ability to create new additional spaces. Inside the tunnel, there're public restrooms, warehouses, and currency exchange cabins. The project also included the making of an amphitheater, but it was left unrealized.
Concerning the pedestrian street, with widening, it was also planned to change the extempore stands with new congruous ones. As a result, that would have simplified the flowing processes of the street, would make more uninterrupted crowd movement and the trade with the objects exhibited on the stands.
